The Maw House
Arthur J. and Doris Maw
525 Hillcrest Avenue
1951 - 1955

Arthur Maw was Head of the Department of Poultry Husbandry at Penn State. He and his wife asked Hallock for a more traditional home to fit in with the neighboring dwellings in West College Heights. There are still a number of architectural touches, such as built-ins and Phil’s frequently found “pattern of squares,” here in the form of a glass block window by the entry.

The entry has a fairly contemporary touch, with its glass block window.

The heavily used library-office has two walls of built-ins.

Look carefully to see a built-in at top right as well as ahead.

In the living room the handsome fireplace mantle is extended to provide book storage.

The living and dining rooms are to the rear and look out to an arbor-covered patio and landscaped back yard.
